Bio

Hi, my name is Kristie Bourne. I am qualified Level 5 Equine Behavioural Science. I have previously trained as a veterinary nurse, working in both small animal and mixed animal practices. I have held behaviour clinics for cats and dogs within my role as a veterinary nurse. I also have a degree in Psychology.I have previously owned horses from youngsters to veteran, training and competing in dressage and in hand showing. I have loaned and schooled horses for owners also.I also have a I am currently studying Advanced Equine Nutrition and plan to undertake a bitting and bridle fitting courses as well as saddle fitting and Mctimony courses in the future. I regularly attend continuous professional development (CPD) courses to increase my knowledge base. All of the above can help identify issues and then resolve through goal plans and management advice.I use positive reinforcement only, via scratches and occasional treats and never use flooding or punishment to change a behaviour. I use shaping which is a goal setting programme with small goals to achieve a main goal. I also help with youngsters to get them desensitised without any pressure or flooding which can lead to learned helplessness and unhappy and tense horses, who will have difficulty with learning new things.

If you or anyone you know is having problems with their horses, no matter how minor, please give me a call or DM. If your horse, cribs, weaves, kicks the stable door, bucks, rears, has trouble moving forward, napping etc please get in touch. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me. Many thanks Kristie.
