Lucy Butt Equine Behaviourist
Bio
I have a BSc (Hons) in Equine Behavioural Science alongside over 15 years of experience in various elements of the equine industry. I offer behavioural consultations, groundwork lessons, young horse starting/handling and equine management consultations. I am based in Essex but cover all surrounding areas.
I utilise the LIMA (Least Intrusive Minimally Aversive) training principles and use positive reinforcement training in both my groundwork and ridden work. I have a passion for young horses and helping owners and horses achieve their goals in a horse-centered manner.
I also offer young horse clinics and am available for talks and demonstrations.

I found Lucy through some very good reviews I had seen to help me prepare my 3-year-old Welsh mare for ridden work and life in general. From the first session I had with Lucy, I knew she would help me set my pony up for success.
Lucy is so passionate about what she does; she is so kind and gentle with my pony and teaches in such an informative and calm way that it creates the perfect environment for my pony to relax and enjoy what she is being taught! My pony is quite nervous around new people, but Lucy took her time to get to know my pony and didn’t overwhelm her, and my pony definitely likes it when Lucy visits! She explained to me the equine threshold traffic light system, which was put into practice when my pony had a very spooky day at school. She helped me bring her back from red to green by taking her out of the situation and going back to an activity that she loves to do, which is touch. Lucy really does cater to each individual pony and their needs, and she doesn’t cut any corners. Lucy checks in regularly with me and gives me tailored-made ‘homework’ to complete. I would recommend Lucy to owners who want to set up their pony for success.
